Compassionate Self

Spain Spiritual Yoga Retreat

May 12 - 18, 2018

Self-compassion is about being forgiving, loving and kind to ourselves. When we practice self-compassion we secrete oxytocin, the “bonding hormone” that produces the feeling of caregiving and slows down our heart rate. In this state, the desire to relieve our own suffering grows and our ability to observe patterns that produce karma is heightened. Once observed, we can begin to transform them.

This is a 7 day spiritual yoga retreat on the foothills of the Sierra Nevada national park in Spain. We will immerse ourselves in the worlds of Ayurveda, Camino Rojo, Meditation, and Yoga, embraced by majestic views of these sacred mountains.

Asanas will make our bodies pliable and open to contemplate the subtleties of our bodies. Ayurveda and fasts will cleanse and transform us from the inside out, even while we sleep. The Veladas, Icaros, and Caminatas will confront us with the ideas of who we think we are and provide the opportunity to transcend it. Finally, meditation will serve as the bridge to reach our center of consciousness so we can bathe in the wonders of existence.

  • Daily morning and evening asana practice
  • Daily meditation to increase stillness
  • Sacred ceremonies to connect with spirit
  • Ayurvedic meals and herbal teas
  • Hikes through mountains and rivers
  • 7 days and 6 nights stay in the Sierra Nevada

Sierra Nevada, Spain

Sierra Nevada is Spain’s largest national park and has been declared a biosphere reserve. The park is home to a thriving Spanish ibex population, along with other species such as wild boar, martens, badgers, wildcats, and the Golden Eagle.

The venue is located just 30 minutes away from Granada, arguably the single most worthwhile city in Spain for visitors. The house is a renovated flour mill that has a naturally occurring pool of spring water that falls from the mountain.

The third limb of Yoga, and perhaps the most well known of the 8 Limbs. In the west, they are commonly mistaken as “all there is” to Yoga. The purpose of asanas is to make the body a good home for the mind and soul. They provide a controlled battleground for the process of conflict and creation.

The oldest healing science, dating back more than 5,000 years. The knowledge of Ayurveda originated in India and formed the foundation for all other healing systems that exist today. Its main purpose is to heal by bringing balance to the body, mind, and spirit. This is accomplished through diet, lifestyle, and rejuvenation.

Camino Rojo

There are very few words written about El Camino Rojo, as it opposes the idea that only the written word is legitimate. El Camino Rojo is an oral tradition that deals with the subtleties of our being and connects us to spirit through icaros, prayers, and words. Teachings and ceremonies revolve around nature and Earth.

Is the seventh limb of Yoga, dhyana, but often understood as the inner most quest, antaratma sadhana, which involves the last three Limbs: dharana, dhyana, and samadhi. The goal of antaratma sadhana is to reach samadhi, however, it is only a tool in the process of self-realization.
