What are Icaros?

Icaros are shamanic songs that are used by healers, or curanderos, in many pre-hispanic ceremonies. They are spiritually led and used for healing, cleansing, and protection. These songs are traditionally passed down from shaman to shaman or created in the moment.

“Or one might say that the icaro is a pretext for the shaman to transmit his energy. Or that it is the message transmitted in the icaro that cures.”

– Dr. Jacques Mabit

They also called “songs of the plants” because typically these ceremonies include plant medicine. The songs speak to the energy of the plant, like a prayer that sends out a vibrational frequency and activates spiritual power.
